Château Sociando-Mallet

Château Sociando-Mallet is a winegrowing estate in the Haut-Médoc appellation, located in Saint-Seurin de Cadourne, around 10 kilometers from Pauillac and bordering the Gironde estuary.

Jean Gautreau bought Château Sociando-Mallet in 1969 and today manages the estate with his daughter Sylvie. At that time there were only 5 hectares of vines, whereas today the vineyard stretches over 85 hectares, thanks to the commitment of Jean Gautreau who raised the level of the finest wines on the left bank of the river in terms of quality and reputation.

The unique asset of Sociando-Mallet is its superb gravelly soil forming a ridge along the river. The wines produced on these soils express the classic, unique qualities of Médoc wines with a remarkable consistency: complexity, depth, elegance, freshness with great ageing potential. The working methods in the vineyard and the winery are traditional and rigorous with constant consideration paid to the terroir and the authenticity of the product. The Château’s motto reflects the owner’s philosophy: “Sociando Mallet… quite simply”.

It is essential that the city of Bordeaux, as a world capital of wine, has a cultural and tourist centre, which is why La Cité du Vin project is perfect. Wine is much more than a drink. It has become an object of study, a focus and a passion for many enthusiasts who collect and taste wine and who are keen to understand and continuously find out more about it. Participating in this major promotion of wine and of Bordeaux, convinced that the impacts will be beneficial to the entire industry, is why Château Sociando-Mallet chose to become a patron of the project.
