Vitra is dedicated to designing innovative products and concepts in collaboration with renowned designers, such as Charles & Ray Eames, Jean Prouvé, George Nelson, Isamu Noguchi, Antonio Citterio, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Jasper Morrison, Arik Levy, Barber&Osgerby, and many more.
Developed in Switzerland and manufactured in Europe, these products are distributed throughout the world to architects, companies and private individuals who use them organise work spaces and equip houses, shops and public places. The Vitra brand is not just a synonym for equipping offices and furniture, lighting and home accessories but also for intelligent systems for shop-fitting and the made-to-measure retail trade.
At Vitra the products are designed in the framework of a trusting relationship; they are the fruit of a collaboration between designers from all over the world and customers who share their ambitions. This collaboration is a subtle synthesis of freedom and creation, technical know-how and market knowledge. This ethos has informed the company culture from the very beginning, when designers like Charles & Ray Eames or George Nelson defined benchmark pieces that have lost none of their relevance today.
Vitra's production site at Weil-am-Rhein, near Basel, is an unusual architectural ensemble. Renowned international architects like Nicholas Grimshaw, Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Tadao Ando, Álvaro Siza, Herzog & de Meuron and SANAA started to fashion this group of buildings in 1981. Each building stands out by its own architectural identity. They combine to form a unique composition and constitute a part of our company culture, based on the noble values of creativity and innovation.
As an active promoter of design culture and architecture, Vitra has always felt itself invested with a mission to support cultural institutions. Vitra France thus became a patron of institutions whose philosophy and general interest are close to its values and which improve living conditions.
We feel we have the duty to support institutions that, like us, disseminate and promote culture and information to the general public.
It seemed natural for Vitra to join in the great cultural, economic, tourist, architectural and innovative adventure of La Cité du Vin in Bordeaux.
We are proud to support this wonderful project.
